Living in a social media, virtual, viral world…and our students are too cool for it
So…I am not disappointed the Sanad Prep students haven’t raised the full amount they needed. To be honest with you, I was going to cover whatever they didn’t make. The point was to teach them a lesson. That they have to share their passion, their effort, and their hope so others see what they are doing and want to do. The fact is though we are living in a social media, virtual, viral world…and our students are too cool for it. They don’t see what all the buzz and drama is about trying to stand cool on a twitter, facebook, etc etc platform that moves way too fast. In fact, none of our middle or high school students are even active on social media. The result, a crowdfunding campaign that didn’t go too viral and was a bit too vaccine. But to be honest, that’s cool to me. Because to be honest, they were too busy living real lives…doing real homework, real traveling, real playing in the real world, and putting the finishing touches on the real film they made with their new camera. The film has been entered in the Muslim Interscholastic Tournament this weekend. We’re driving up tomorrow morning and I planned to tell them not to worry about the money for the camera. But, before I did that I thought I would write this letter for them without them knowing. Maybe I would have the opportunity to tell them not only do I support them and a few others, but several others. And that they don’t need to feel bad that our small non-profit made this investment in them because friends and strangers invested more. Seriously, not trying to emotional blackmail. I just know these kids are not wasting time on social media, and I love them for that. I thought I would spend a little writing this for them. There are 2 days left for the campaign. It’s really not that much. Do what you can do and share where you can. Your love, support and duas are always much appreciated. On behalf of the Sanad Prep SoKs (Students of Knowledge), thank you. Make duas for a safe trip and successful film competition. Jazak Allahu khayr.
Your brother, their ustadh,
rehan
