The month of Rabi’ al-awwal marks the birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family. Muslims around the world commemorate his birth by reflecting on the virtues and teachings of the Prophet and sending greetings upon him.

Inspired by this, CelebrateMercy will be holding a global webcast about Lessons from the Prophet’s Married Life. We will be having a LIVE screening from Sanad on Friday, February 17th at 8:30 p.m. Multiple scholars will share their reflections, including Imam Zaid Shakir, Imam Suhaib Webb, Habib Ali Al-Jifri, Dr. Ingrid Mattson, Dr. Tariq Ramadan, and more!

We will arrange for food vendors to be available and are hoping for a great turnout from high school and college students! Please let us know if you would like to help volunteer.

See our email campaign for more information.

Assalamualaikum,

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, This month, Rabi-ul-Awwal, is a blessed month. It is the month in which Allah sent down our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to save mankind from going astray. Today in assembly, we talked about how we can learn about our Prophet. There is a Hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik (ra)  that states something like this: after we die, we can find the prophet in one of three places, the mizaan (the scales used to weigh our deeds), The Sirat (The Bridge of Life- which all mankind will have to cross as commanded by Allah (SWT), or the Haud (the life pool of the Prophet Muhammed (SAW). How can we identify him, you ask? Well, we have to learn the characteristics of our Prophet Muhammad (SAW). From Imam Tirmidhi’s book Shammail al Tirimdhi we know a few facts which are: our Prophet is the last prophet, there was a birthmark as proof of the seal of the prophet between his shoulder blades, also he will be the only one permitted to intercede between us and Allah on the day of Judgement. Finally, we also know that the Prophet will be  by his Ummah next to his Haud. So, Inshallah we will learn about the Prophet during this and we continue to learn about him for the rest of our lives.

jazakallahukhair

Asalamulaikum

Asalamualiakum,

My dear brothers and sisters, Our honorable Ustadh Amir is back from his trip to Egypt. Yesterday, he brought back a reminder to fill our heart with Iman. Today, with the help of our respected Ustadh Rehan, we talked about a new concept called Humility. Humility is when you have respect for others and you don’t feel that you are better then anyone. The best example is our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). He was abused in Makkah  where he lived. Garbage was thrown at him and kids that would be told by their parents to throw rocks at him. Upon returning to Makkah, he lowered his head lower than his camel’s head. He gave gifts to the new Muslims to the point where the believers in Madinah were asking, why? Our wise role model, Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W)’s, reason was so that that new Muslims will have love in their hearts and not think that the Prophet was going to harm or seek revenge on the new Muslims. To  put it short, he would remove the worry in their hearts. So as Sanad Learning Center students, we follow our motto which is BLTP- Be Like the Prophet.

Jazak Allahu khair and Asalamualiakum,

Assalamulaikum

My dear Brother’s and Sisters, today in assembly we recapped about love and were introduced to a new concept: Honor. Our Esteemed Ustadh Rehan  showed us an example with his phone. He said ” If we had a old phone that is scratched up we won’t care but if we had a valuable diamonds, we would secure and cherish and show it off. So why not do that when we make Dua, when we hold up our hands, we should hold it up like a diamond.” Our naseeha was that we should honor our duas. So we should honor all the Duas we make Inshallah.

Assalamualiakum,

Asalamualaikum

My dear Brothers and Sisters, today in SLC we learned about the word love. What is Love? Our beloved Ustazh, Br.Rehan has told us we should love the Allah (swt) and his prophet, Muhammed (S), at every moment of our life . How do we love Allah and his beloved prophet? Well, we should remember the prophet’s every deed, and make it our own. And if we do that, we are loving Allah as well. As Allah has said in his holy book, The Quran: “Loving the prophet is loving Allah.”

Inshallah, we should try to love Allah and his prophet.

“Touched by an Angel”

“There is too much noise in here” I think to myself and begin to complain to Allah. A thousand other questions begin to blur my mind and echo once again in my heart. Yasmine and Asiya are giggling and don’t seem to care too much about the noise level. They recommend to me that we should go to our hiding place by the office. In reality, the office space is a modest size corner with a desk attached to a wall unit and two chairs. We “hide” by the office to escape everyone in the center and begin our lesson about the Roman builders and Roman civilization. The girls are really excited as their eyes widen even more because of what they are hearing, “As the Roman empire grew and they controlled the Italian Peninsula, they wanted to travel easily from one end to the other so they build strong roads; strong enough that some  continue to be used today like The Appian Way…”

The audio recording continues to talk about the high story buildings in Rome, and the aqueducts that brought clean fresh water to the remote cities. Their young and enthusiastic minds grasp all this information like sponges and as the audio comes to an end, we begin to talk about the lesson. Asiya jumps up and says,  “were the aqueducts used like these pipes underneath the wudu station, that bring clean water and take away our dirty used water…” They ask me if Sanad can have a filed trip to Rome one day, so they can walk on the Appian way, and see what aqueducts look like, and other Roman structures. I am amazed by their curiosity and thrilled by their imagination and want to feel like a 2nd grader again. Our center is not very large but this has not stopped Yasmine and Asiya from dreaming about visiting Rome one day.

I feel a deep sense of regret in my heart for wanting to complain earlier about the noise level and small space. I want to be grateful for this space because of these two 8 years old, and 17 other kids who have made my dream of having an Islamic full time education center for grades 1-12 a reality for this community. I want to thank Allah for this big opening… where kids can have a safe Islamic environment learning about the world, and themselves…where they begin and end their day and everything in between in the name of Allah…A place where their love, curiosity, and motivation for life, and the world He created  is fulfilled through teaching them to know and love Allah. And for that, I cannot be grateful enough to Him, Most Merciful and Generous is He.

Attiqa Syeda, Sanad Learning Coach

In one of his lessons Sayyidi al-Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah preserve him)[1] called us to reflect upon the following beautiful hadith, narrated by Imam Ahmad on the authority of `Abdullah bin `Amr.

قال صلى الله عليه و آله و صحبه و سلم : و الذي نفس محمد بيده إن مثل المؤمن كمثل النحلة أكلت طيبا و وضعت طيبا و وقعت فلم تكسر و لم تفسد

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad the believer is like a bee which eats that which is pure and wholesome and lays that which is pure and wholesome. When it lands on something it does not break or ruin it.”

· The bee only eats from flowers which are tayyib (pure and wholesome). It is not attracted to repulsive things, unlike some other insects. Likewise the believer only eats that which is pure and wholesome.

· The bee lays or excretes honey which is also tayyib. Likewise only that which is good and wholesome comes forth from the believer, whether it be his words, his intentions or his actions.

· The bee is light and nimble and does not break the flowers upon which it lands, nor does it ruin them. Likewise the believer is gentle in his dealings with the creation and does not harm or ruin any human or animal or plant.

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “When a person dies, their deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (continuous charity); knowledge which is beneficial; and a virtuous descendant who prays for them (the deceased).”[Sahih Muslim]
